Hostal Baler takes its name from the Hostel built by the middle of XIX century by Joan Corrades i Bosch, who bought the space in 1840 and gave it the name from the small village where he was born, Hostafrancs del Sió, in the catalan Segarra’s County.
The main economical sources from the area come from the busy and famous fresh food market and the close location to the lively commercial Creu Coberta and Sants street.

Creu Coberta street has been historically and nowadays part from the commercial local shops wire in the city of Barcelona. Along with Sants street, this is the longest commercial street in Europe, 4 km long for small local shopping, from Plaza de España to Collblanc road. Its opening was back in 1968. The local small shops owners created Creu Coberta & Sants Establiments Units, two local asociations integrated in the quarter and engaged with every day life. There is more than 800 small local shops in these streets, represented by the association.
With two centuries of commercial tradition, nowadays is one of the most lively shopping streets in the city of Barcelona.
